Fai is my newest muse, and I will easily admit that there is no way I've got him down pat. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you have about my portrayal here. All comments are screened, IP is off and anonymous is allowed.

[Technology still makes Fai nervous as all get out, so his voice isn't the strongest when he records this. However, it is still clear and to the point.]

Um, this is Fai's... voicemail. The younger Fai. I'm not used to this sort of thing, but I'll do my best to get back to you.

[ History ] :
Fai and his twin brother Yuui were born to the second prince of the country of Valeria. It was said that combined they possessed magic so strong it rivaled and possibly surpassed that of the king. Unfortunately, twins were considered to be bad omens. When their father died shortly after their birth and their mother committed suicide, the blame fell upon the bad luck supposedly brought about by the twins’ existence.

The king decided to banish the twins to a valley with a tower and high walls where magic does not work and time does not flow, as neither twin could accept the other option of allowing one of them to be killed. This valley was where the bodies of the condemned were thrown and left to never decay. He believed that by keeping them separated, placing Fai at the top of the tower and Yuui at the bottom, he would end the misfortune of their country by keeping them unhappy but alive. After some time passes, the twins began to notice more people were being dropped into the valley- including young children and the elderly. Yuui discovers that the current king has gone mad and is killing all of the citizens. Eventually even the king throws himself into the valley and kills himself in front of Yuui. He states that the twins are the last two left living in Valeria before he dies.

Later the twins are simultaneously contacted by Fei Wong Reed from another dimension and offered a chance to leave the valley. The catch is that only one can go, and they must choose who is allowed to. Each twin says that the other should be the one to leave. In the end it is Fai who insists that he dies so that Yuui will be able to live freely, and the boy is thrown from the tower to his death.

[ Personality ] :
Fai’s unusual past has a lot to do with his personality. He is interested in making new friends and has a kind heart, but is somewhat wary of strangers after feeling like the only one he can trust is his sibling. The intense isolation he faced the majority of his life has also left him a little lacking in his social skills. He’s not the best at communicating his feelings effectively, more likely to bottle it up and not say anything about it at all. His grasp on sarcasm is practically nonexistant. Since he's not used to being able to ask anyone for help, he'll probably try to do things on his own that he shouldn't (like cooking or stacking things to get at something high up). The twin is of course better at interacting with Yuui, although he’ll hesitate a little at first even with his brother thanks to how much time has passed for the elder mage.

Given the amount of blame that was placed on Fai and his twin for the problems that occurred in Valeria, he harbors an immense skeptical nature for superstitions and an even deeper respect for the value of life. He can’t necessarily say that everyone’s existence is precious or every single person deserves to live, but he certainly believes that harming another is one of the gravest things a person can do and would be very reluctant to hurt anyone himself.

He was fortunate to receive enough of an education to read and write; this, along with having never been able to study magic or see much of the world outside the castle and the valley instilled in Fai an immense thirst for knowledge. He loves books and libraries and could spend hours sitting in one place just reading. Tied into this is a general sense of curiosity, and as a result Fai is often willing to work past his reservations towards unfamiliar people if he thinks they might be able to provide him with useful or interesting information.

Fai has an extreme fear of being left completely alone. He doesn’t have to be around people all the time, or even have the friendship of a great number of people, but if there was ever a point where he needed the comfort of someone else's presence and there was absolutely nobody he could turn to the poor kid would hide in the smallest place he can find and curl up just so he can feel safe. He also has a tendency to worry about the well-being of others before his own, especially that of Yuui's.He feels a strong, ever present connection to his twin and would do most anything for him.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
+One of Fai’s greatest strengths is his huge potential for magic. However he has not had any instruction in how to cast it, so it's kind of a moot point.

+He can be fiercely stubborn and determined when he has made a decision about something.

-His limited life experiences have left him naïve regarding some aspects of life.

-No training at all in any type of combat.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Nothing I can think of at the moment.

[ Sample ] :
There were a lot of things the young blond was going to have to adjust to. The most obvious, of course, was being alive again. Every night he still had to reconcile with the fact that in his own world he no longer existed, dreamed about that fall from the tower that had felt as if it went on forever. What tore at his heart the most was remembering the look on his brother’s face at that moment.

Far outnumbering this, though, were all the things that would seem insignificant to others. Like how the world wasn’t covered in snow. He’d be content never seeing a single flake of the stuff ever again, but the grass he currently felt beneath his bare feet was something completely alien to him. It could be warm from being drenched in the sun’s heat or as cool as the shade that covered it, dry and brittle or wet and slippery.

Suddenly there existed a plethora of animals he couldn’t have dreamed of even when his imagination had been one of the only things that was still free. Who would have thought of a giant bird they could ride upon? Fai made a mental note to ask on the… “network”… if these birds were from any of the other foreigners’ home worlds. Who better to ask for more information on them than someone of the same realm? He was much more comfortable asking these sorts of questions over the strange little devices where it was only his words people saw. Something about having that distance between them made Fai less uneasy about speaking to people he didn't know. The boy enjoyed another breath of the park’s fresh air, put his shoes back on and headed off toward the library Yuui had told him about the night before.

“I dunno what kind of strange magic this place is, but… I don’t think I could have wished for anything better,” he says to himself with a genuine smile. Boy did it feel good to smile again, and not that strange sort of one his brother wore that made Fai doubt its sincerity and worry about him even more. For once he was happy and it was okay to be happy.
